#Livin' the dream

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

ô là là!…. J'adore France.

Last week like many others I took some time off for half term. My husband and I traveled down to the Loire to pick up the keys for our new French properties. Long story, but I accidentally bought 3 houses and 2 plots of land.

This #newadventure has been in our minds for about a year, so it was very exciting to see one of our #goals turn into reality. It’s amazing what you can do if you focus and put lots of effort in. I love to achieve stuff.

We got there to 18 degrees and bright sunshine; a fairy tale start but….. The rest of the week was #challenging. Neither of us speaks good french, so communication was tiring. The properties need a lot of building work done on them, so

a) Insurance was complicated and took nearly a day on the phone to sort out

b) lots of building rules and regulations had to be navigated

c) the house we stayed in was freezing and had no hot water

d) I tried to order something at the local baker's and heard the customers laughing at my French as I went to leave.

Although the week had its ups and downs, we loved it.

Picking up some more French vocabulary and learning to speak a little more felt like a small achievement. We meet 4 or 5 new neighbours who let us shower, cooked us meals and gave us wine.

We found some local support to project manage the building work.

We smashed down some internal walls (How fantastic does that make you feel. Loved it!)

and then this……

River view of house in Loire at sunset

This was the view from my front door on Wednesday morning 8:00am. The colours were beautiful, the steam was rising from the river and everything was still. I sat there for about 15mins and thanked my lucky stars for the amazing life I am experiencing.

This week’s message; Even though your goals may be hard to achieve, remember nothing ever worthwhile is easy, life has its ups and downs.

Keeping a visual reminder of why you are doing what you are doing will keep you going through the tougher days. (This photo has become my screen saver.)
