Making Space To Rest

#WeeklyNRG – A Snapshot of All Things #NRG
This week’s theme? Making space to rest, play and notice the small moments that turn into the memories we carry with us.
The Weekly Debrief
Last week brought one of those reminders that joy is often hiding in the smallest details. I watched two young children completely mesmerised by my husband playing guitar. They were dancing, laughing and moving like no one was watching. It was brilliant. There was such freedom in it. No self-consciousness, no overthinking, just pure response to the music. It made me stop and think about how powerful music is, and how it can shift the way we feel in an instant.
As I sit here typing, there’s someone playing piano at Euston station, and it’s absolutely beautiful. These little pockets of music have a way of making you pause, breathe and take in the moment. They remind me that life isn’t only about getting from A to B- something I used to do by rushing around- it’s about what you notice along the way.
The Week Ahead
This week is a little different, as I’m taking a proper break and spending time with my mum and dad in France. What makes it even more special is that just six weeks ago they didn’t even have passports. They haven’t had a proper holiday for 16 years, and it’s been more than 20 years since they last went abroad. So at 79 and 83, I’m in awe of their adventurous spirit.

We’re going to make the most of every day together, travelling by train, visiting caves, exploring our little village and the surrounding area, and just seeing what the week brings. Energy levels will decide how much we do, but the plan is simple: take it step by step, enjoy the flow of the day, and make memories in the moments in between the “main” activities.
Lessons Learnt
This week feels like a reminder that rest and play are not luxuries; they’re part of what makes life rich. The more time we give ourselves to slow down, to listen to music, to watch children dance, or to wander through a new place without rushing, the more we notice the texture of life.
It’s also a lesson in going with the flow. Sometimes plans change — like a cancelled train — and all you can do is adjust, breathe and figure out the next step. That doesn’t make the trip any less meaningful; if anything, it becomes part of the story.
So this week’s takeaway is simple: enjoy the minute you’re in, make room for play, and let the memories build naturally. The small details are often the ones that stay with us longest. Just the right dose of #NRG.
