Using time intentionally, rather than simply filling it
#WeeklyNRG – A Snapshot of All Things #NRG
This week’s theme? Using time intentionally, rather than simply filling it. It is all too easy for a diary to become full without us being clear on whether the things in it are giving us energy, moving us forward or reflecting what matters most.
The Weekly Debrief
Last week was one of preparation: getting the gîtes and the house ready for autumn, and getting organised for a little time home alone in France. Work was non-stop, visits with friends were non-stop, and there were plenty of practical things to get done.
Among all of that, Kyle and I did make time for some proper couple time — important before he set off this morning on his big adventure. I cannot say too much just yet, but we are all very excited for him.
The Week Ahead
Over the next couple of weeks, I am looking forward to a quieter kind of #NRG. Less Home Alone chaos, hopefully, and more calm, reflective time.
I plan to run, walk and build in more regular fitness; work on the things that are important to me; watch less television; sew more; and generally enjoy the space. Kyle and I are used to spending time apart and normally relish both the independence and the reunion afterwards. This time will be a little longer than usual, though, so I want to use it consciously — not simply fill the space because it is there.
Lessons Learnt
Reading Ray Dalio’s 'Principles' is adding an extra layer to that reflection. One line in particular feels very apt: “Pain + Reflection = Progress.”

This is not about pain in any dramatic sense. It is about noticing the discomfort of feeling a little unsettled, resisting the urge to distract ourselves with more doing, and asking what it might be trying to teach us. Dalio’s broader point is that principles are ways of dealing with reality so we can get what we want from life. (https://www.principles.com/)
So, over the next few weeks, I will be making time to think, reflect and see what emerges. Perhaps it will be a new goal, a clearer focus, a stronger habit — or simply a better understanding of what I want to give more energy to.
Here’s to choosing what fills our time, rather than allowing our time to fill itself. Just the right dose of #NRG.
